Mrs. Baker began her legal career as a Public Defender in the 9th Circuit where she tried over 25 cases ranging from juvenile matters to felonies punishable by life. After her time at the Office of the Public Defender, Mrs. Baker then gained substantial experience in civil litigation as an associate at McDonald Toole Wiggins where she represented Fortune 500 companies in complex civil lawsuits. Mrs. Baker then served as in-house counsel for Progressive Insurance where she gained substantial insight on litigating motor vehicle accidents from the defense side. She then returned to criminal defense as a private defense attorney with Smith and Eulo, where she successfully defended hundreds of clients, including securing a not guilty verdict as co-counsel on an attempted murder trial in Jacksonville, Florida.

In addition to her legal career, Ashley dedicates substantial time to helping the community directly. She has served on the Community Outreach Committee for the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association, and serves on the Justice Advisory Committee under Congressman Soto to collaborate on reviewing legislature such as the Justice in Policing Act of 2020 and other policy issues with fellow community leaders in Florida. In 2024, she was honored as a Distinguished Leader in Central Florida for Black History Month.
